This
barren, dry island frequently plagued by high winds, but graced
with fantastic beaches and a cosmopolitan, beautiful and colourful
town, has the most exciting and sophisticated nightlife in
Greece. Together with the islands close proximity to Delos
it is the most popular island in the Cyclades.
Three
cities were built by the Ionians on Mykonos: one south of Hora,
the next at Dimastos and the third at Panormos. All three
were destroyed during the war between the Romans and Mithridates
of Pontus. Mykonos Town was rebuilt during the Byzantine period
and the Venetians surrounded it with a wall that no longer exists.
Accommodation
If
you are looking for excellent B class hotel accommodation check
out the Rochari
Hotel. I can personally recommend it for very friendly staff,
great rooms, fantastic views of the town and only a 5 minute walk
to the harbour front. Also, the Mykonos
Accommodation Centre provides extensive information on lodging
available and Matt
Holidays should be checked out for their very nice range of
island hotels.
Check
the island out on the Internet
All
aspects of the island are covered by the many many pages about
Mykonos online. I'm not going to repeat any of this information
here but will provide you with links that should answer your every
question.
