For most people the journey to the city or the island will mean a flight to Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos at Spata which opened to commercial flights on 29th March 2001. All international and domestic flights operate from the new airport, located 27km northeast of Athens. Eleftherios Venizelos has 163 check-in counters, 24 boarding bridges, 11 baggage claim belts, a huge new shopping centre and is predicted to handle 16 million passengers per year. ATM facilities provided by Alpha Bank and Commercial Bank are available at the Arrivals level in the main terminal building and the Departures level between entrances 2-5. Olympic Airways have kindly provided maps of the new airport which show the different levels.

Online timetables and fare information is also available for all domestic, European and international flights by Olympic, the national airline. Aegean Airlines, formed as the result of a merger between Aegean and Cronus Airlines, has timetables and online booking available on their site for their domestic and international flights.
